Big Society in Action
This body of work represents very much a beginners attempt at documentary photography. Here I try to portray that despite all the fashionable media talk about declining trade unionism, evidence shows a considerable residual strength in the trade union organisation manifesting itself through the mobilisation of the masses in a spate of public protests in recent years.
In October 2012, unions, anti-war campaigners, left wing leaders, community groups and other activists from all over the country poured down London’s streets in a demonstration against reductions to public sector spending. I was fortunate enough to be part of that march and the rally in Hyde Park with thousands of protesters and lucky enough to be able to capture some shots of the big society in action!
